Satirical pieces written by Barnum entitled "Chronicle of a Cannibal Family: A Sunday School Story" (1908, two drafts) and "A Compendium of Osteology or Treatise on Bones" (1920). Also two "Liar's Licenses" (1898, 1909) and a poem on "Sound Beach's braes" (undated).

Includes letters from Barnum's sister Annie (1896), as well as other family members, predominantly regarding Barnum genealogy. Also includes a "Record of Special Letters" (1910-1912) listing correspondence sent by Barnum to relatives across the country in attempts to learn more about the family's history. Note that the remainder of the correspondence within this collection is in the standalone Correspondence series.

Material (including clippings) showing where Barnum lived in Baltimore and New York before joining the Society. Also includes a typescript copy of an extract from the will of Zenus Barnum (d. 1882), Francis' brother. In his will, Zenus stipulated that a portion of his estate would be directed to Francis so long as he left the Catholic priesthood.

Confederate Navy letter book, 1864-07-04 - 1865-04-03, 1914

Scope and Contents

A letter book for the Confederate naval station in Columbus, Georgia, where Augustus McLaughlin was commander. A 1914 note from Barnum in the cover indicates that McLaughlin's father Andrew was a proprietor of Barnum's City Hotel in Baltimore, which was owned by Francis' father Zenus.
