Scope and Contents Br. John Sheehy (1811-1848) was born in Ballintaguirt, County Kerry, Ireland, and immigrated to Quebec in 1837. Soon thereafter he was a teacher of mathematics on a US vessel for a few years and then went to teach at the parochial school of Georgetown College. He entered the Society of Jesus at Frederick in 1848 and was a teacher there and at Georgetown until he developed dropsy (edema) and moved to Frederick (1880). Scope and Contents Edward Slaughter (1655-1729) was born in Herefordshire, England, and entered the Society of Jesus in 1673. Around 1677 he began teaching Hebrew at the Liège Jesuit college, expanding later to mathematics and theology. Scope and Contents

Felix Sopranis (1799-1876) was born in Genova/Genoa, Italy, and entered the Society of Jesus at Rome in 1818. He was sent by the Jesuit Superior General to visit and report on all stations in the US and visited Loyola and Georgetown Colleges in 1859. This folder contains:

Martin John Spalding (1810-1872) was a diocesan priest who became Bishop of Louisville (1850-1864) and then Archbishop of Baltimore (1864-1872). This folder includes:

a) A bound booklet, including a transcription of his "Introductory Address to the Rt. Rev. Bishops," given to Spalding by the scholastics of Georgetown College (5-17-1849)
b) Order signed by Spalding forbidding all members of religious orders, including Jesuits, from bearing arms (10-2-1864)

Scope and Contents Nicholas Steinbacher (1796-1861) entered the Society of Jesus in 1832 and was at Goshenhoppen (Pennsylvania, 1833-1838, 1842-1844) where he was also Superior (1838). Goshenhoppen (1842-1844). While there he founded the Church of the Immaculate Conception (Williamsport, Pennsylvania) in 1842. Scope and Contents Theodore Thiry (1823-1889) was born in Metz, Alsace, and entered the Society of Jesus at St. Acheul (Province of France, later Province of Champagne) in 1843. Scope and Contents John or Jean Tessier (1758-1840) was born in Chapelle-Blanche, France. He joined the Society of Priests of Saint-Sulpice and became a Sulpician. Tessier was superior at St. Mary's Seminary (1810-1829) and vicar general to the first four archbishops of Baltimore.
