Felix Barbelin (1808-1869) was born in Luneville, Alsace and entered the Society of Jesus at White Marsh (1831). After being a teacher at Georgetown College and assistant pastor of Holy Trinity he was assigned to Old St. Joseph's Church, Philadelphia (1837-1869). He was also founder of St. Joseph's Hospital and first president of St. Joseph's College (1852). This folder includes five letters from Fr. Barbelin to an unknown Jesuit regarding mass intentions.

Scope and Contents Francis Beeston (1751-1809) was born in Lincolnshire, England, and entered the Society of Jesus at Ghent in 1771. After the Suppression, he was at the seminary in Liege before emigrating to the US in 1786. He was at Bohemia Manor beginning in 1790 and eventually assigned to Old St. Joseph's (Philadelphia) and made rector of the cathedral in Baltimore, where he remained until his death in 1809. William R. Cowardin (1849-1925) entered Georgetown College in 1860 before joining the Confederate Army near the close of the Civil War. He later entered the Society of Jesus in 1870, was ordained in 1880, and became a prefect at Georgetown College (1881-1888) and the last Jesuit superior of Conewago (1899-1901). This folder includes a notebook containing spiritual and scientific notes (1879-1883) and a letter from Fr. Patrick Healy to Cowardin (12-7-1892).
