Cilice/discipline, 1890s

 File — Box: 1, Object: 1-2
Scope and Contents

A chain cilice and a rope discipline (or scourge); likely late nineteenth-century as self-flagellation was in decline by the early twentieth century due to papal reforms. While these two items were found within Fr. McNally's belongings, it is unclear whether he used them as tools of self-mortification or kept them simply for their historical value.
