Styles Family Commonplace Book, 1774 - 1814

Scope and Contents A commonplace book apparently of the late 18th or early 19th century. The name “J.J. Styles” is written on the front of the parchment binding and again on the inside pastedown with the date 1814. Another name is inscribed with the date 26 July 1774, and a 20th century stamp bearing the name “Samuel H. Styles” is also present. This may be Washington-area resident Samuel Holmes Styles (1866-1952), whose grandfather was an English doctor by the name of John Styles. A business card housed...
