Penobscot Prayer Book, 1804

Scope and Contents

A leatherbound prayer book in the Penobscot (Abenaki) language by Fr. Jacques René Romagné. Also includes a French prayer at the end of the volume. The contents of the prayer book were published by Romagné in 1834 as The Indian prayer book: compiled and arranged for the benefit of the Penobscot and Passamaquoddy Tribes. Fr. Barber may have used this prayer book around 1828-1831 while on mission in Maine.
