The prison included separate sections for long-term and short-term prisoners, each segregated by sex and race. The priests identified individual prisoners by race, when discussing their crimes. They observed living conditions, the conduct of prisoners, the presence of Catholics, and the possibilities for conversion, The priests assigned to this mission...
