Collection-level Scope and Content Note The August Velletri Papers include correspondence received by Mr. Velletri during his assignment as political officer to the U.S. Embassy in Rome (1955-1960). The primary correspondent is Archbishop Eugene (or Igino) Cardinale, chief of protocol to the Vatican secretary of state. Other correspondence is from various Italian officials, party members, and associates. These include Angelo dell'Aqua, secretary of state to the Vatican and Anselmo Crisafulli, a prominent lawyer and publicist....

Collection-level Scope and Content Note The collection is oriented around Commodore Verhoog's special interest in Christopher Columbus, specifically, the latter's first landfall in the Caribbean Islands in 1492. Of interest, regarding the subject, is correspondence between Comm. Verhoog and Columbus scholars and naval historians such as K.W.L. Bezemer, Ludovic Kennedy, Carlos Sanz, E.M. Shilstone, P.V.H. Weems, and geologist Clifford Kaye. Also included are offprints of papers written by the foregoing about the Columbus landfall....

Scope and Contents

A bound manuscript on paper, c. 1700, containing an unidentified Italian life of Pope Sixtus V. The text is written by a single hand in a neat cursive script. Volume retains its original binding of vellum over board, featuring a stained spine label with the title stamped in gilt. The binding is now somewhat stained and the boards warped, but this does not compromise legibility.
