Biographical Note
John C. Hirsh (1942–2024) was a longtime English Department faculty member at Georgetown University specializing in medieval English literature and 19th and early 20th century American literature. He also was also devoted to community service, leading mentoring and youth literacy programs in Washington DC and the United Kingdown.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The collection consists of items that remained in John C. Hirsh's Georgetown University faculty office after his passing. They were selected by English Department staff and transferred to Special Collections in fall 2025.
Processing Information
The collection has been rehoused in acid-free boxes and folders. Letters found folded up in journals were removed, unfolded, and foldered with their corresponding journals.
