Scope and Contents

The contains printed items in Arabic and French relating to "le Statut Personnel en Egypte" and the abolition of non-Muslim courts (Majalis Milliyah) in Egypt in the 1950s. The material was sent to Samir Zoghby by his Uncle Elias Zoghby (see letter from latter dated December 17, 1958 from Cairo in Folder 1:1).

Biographical Note

Elias Zoghby (1912-2008) was the Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of Baalbek and a leading advocate of Catholic-Orthodox Ecumenism. He led the fight in Egypt among the Christian communities against the abolition of the Communal tribunals (Majalis Milliyah).
