Identifier: GTM-20240815

Scope and Contents

The colledction contains the papers, photographs, audiovisual materials, publications, and organizational records tied to Mahnaz Afkhami and her wide-ranging work in Iran and across global feminist and human-rights networks.

Spread across about 230 boxes, it traces women's reform movements in pre-revolutionary Iran, the exile and diaspora after 1979, and the development of transnational organizations such as the Women's Organization of Iran, the Sisterhood Is Global Institute, the Women's Learning Partnership, and the Foundation for Iranian Studies.

It also holds extensive material from major international conferences, forums, and gatherings on women's rights, human rights, and global policy, including the 1975 United Nations First World Conference on Women in Mexico City, the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, and the State of the World Forum, making it a key resource for tracing how ideas, advocacy, and cross-border collaboration circulate among activists, policy holders, scholars and grassroot organizers.
