The Papers of John R. Crown includes materials related to World War II (pamphlets, a Pocket Guide to New Guinea, certificates, Nazi memorabilia), Georgetown University (especially alumni affairs and Kappa Alpha Phi fraternity, 1920s-1960s), U.S. politicians (inaugural materials related to Dwight Eisenhower and Lyndon B. Johnson, photograph of John F. Kennedy, various autographs), the Catholic Church (Fulton J. Sheen and Francis J. Spellman), and Crown's personal life. It includes several rolled photographs. It also includes sheet published in 1848 titled Music Of The Great Southern, Original Sable Harmonists, The Best Band Of Singers In The United States, Arranged & Sung By Them At All Their Concerts ("Old Uncle Ned"). Finally, the collection contains an oversized photograph of John J. Pershing, Mrs. B.B. Hahn, Elsie Robinson, Fox Conner, Virginia Brandreth Conner, George C. Marshall, and Florence Conner at "Camp Good-Enough," Brandreth, NY, 1919.

Col. John R. Crown was an Army reserve officer and vice president for administration of the Export-Import Bank. He was vice president of Georgetown University's National Alumni Association and president of its Washington alumni club.
