The Nicholas Cleary Collection was originally given to Georgetown University in 1860, according to the inscription by Cleary on the wood document box. A red-bordered label applied to the box after 1900 by archivist Francis Barnum, SJ indicates that "Other Oriental Papers have been added". Other documents with non-European scripts and printing continued to be added occassionally to the collection, until the current processing project, which has separated all items according to provenance from what is described as the original Cleary gift.
Gift of Nicholas Cleary, 1860.
