Scope and Contents

Scrapbook documenting the execution of Fr. Miguel Pro Juarez and two other men in Mexico on November 23, 1927, for an alleged attempt on the life of former Mexican President Álvaro Obregón. It includes photographs of the execution and of Pro's funeral. The scrapbook contains notes on the execution and an explanation of the origin of the scrapbook by Mary D. Kenna.

The scrapbook was sent to Fr. Nevils, "Archivist of Georgetown University," by Mary D. Kenna of New York City in1942 in gratitude for his rectorship of St. Ignatius Loyola High School.

Biographical Note

José Ramón Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez, also known as Blessed Miguel Pro, SJ (January 13, 1891 – November 23, 1927) was a Mexican Jesuit priest executed under the presidency of Plutarco Elías Calles on the false charges of bombing and attempted assassination of former Mexican President Álvaro Obregón.

The scrapbook was transferred from the Georgetown University Archives unit to the Manuscripts unit in December 2022. It was formerly part of the William Coleman Nevils, S.J. Papers (GTA-GAMMS012)
