Scope and Contents
Correspondence and documents concerning the family of Frederick Marcey Lynde and his wife Williamanna Elzey. The papers primarily concern Lynde's petition for longevity pay after his discharge from the army in June 1862, as well as the Sasser family's claims to compensation for damages sustained to their Louisiana farm during the Civil War.

Biographical Note
Frederick Marcy Lynde (1848-1898) was born in Michigan and entered the volunteer service at the beginning of the Civil War, first as Sergeant and later as Second Lieutenant in Company B, 4th Vermont Infantry. He was mustered out in 1862 but re-enlisted, serving as private and then as Sergeant in the 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery until the end of the war. He entered the regular army in 1866 and served in the 22nd and the 1st Infantry, receiving his commission as Captain in 1883 before retiring in 1885. Frederick married Williamanna Elzey in 1868.
