The collection consists of gozos (also known as gosos or goigs) and other religious devotional printed pieces from the Catalan region of Spain, dating from 1776 to 1982. Many of the gozos relate to Mary, mother of Jesus.
It includes:
Single folio volume, bound in contemporary tree calf (scuffed) with “Collecion/de/Gozos” stamped on cover. This volume contains 310 separately printed single-sided illustrated broadsides, each with a woodcut (and usually some other decorative elements) as well as text. The materials date from 1815 to 1873.
40 separate (loose) broadsides, from various dates, mostly 19th century (1832 to 1898), but includes a number of late-18th century examples.
32 single-sided illustrated printed broadsides, all relating to female saints, dating from 1862 to 1982.
52 single-sided separately issued illustrated broadsides presenting various representations of Mary/Virgin Mary/Mother of God, etc., dating from 1854 to 1976.
A selection of 14 separately issued and printed pieces, included gozos, illustrated by the prominent Catalan artist, Antoni Gelabert (1911-1980).
This collection is currently unprocessed and access to it may therefore be limited. Researchers are advised to contact the Booth Family Center for Special Collections for more information on access to this collection.
