Scope and Contents

Photographs taken by and for Peter Bergen when working in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sudan, and Yemen. Subjects are primarily residents and officials in those countries, including: Ahmad Shah Massoud, Berhanuddin Rabbani, Jalaludin and Khalil Haqqani, Hazrat Ali; Ayman al-Zawahiri, Abu Hafs (Mohammed Atef), and Osama bin Laden. There are many photos of other journalists covering Afghanistan and al-Qaeda, particularly Richard Mackenzie, Peter Jouvenal, and Peter Arnett. Also present are photos of places associated with OBL and AQ: residences, training camps, bombing locations, &c. Some of the photos were filed together during the process of writing "The Osama bin Laden I know" in 2006.
