Scope and Contents
Files related to OBL after the 9/11 attacks, including fatwas, statements, and videos from OBL distributed after 9/11 and continuing interviews with those who had known him. The bulk of this sub-series, however, is taken up with the efforts to locate OBL and to capture or kill him. The resulting raid on OBL's compound in Abbottabad features prominently, and includes: the Pakistan Commission on Osama bin Laden raid (translated, with notes by Bergen); miscellaneous interviews with Abbottabad residents; typed notes by Bergen on his visit to Abbottabad compound (Bergen was the only “outside observer” permitted to visit); miscellaneous interviews with Abbottabad residents; statements by al-Qaeda post-Osama bin Laden death (news articles); translation of excerpts from the “Bin Laden Family Journal” (a family journal that the bin Laden family kept in the last several weeks of Osama bin Laden’s life); translations of Abbottabad documents (released in 2017 by the Trump Administration) with notes/annotations by Bergen; Bin Laden’s Hard Drive (2020 National Geographic documentary. Bergen served as Producer and correspondent).
