Correspondence, 1945-02-25 - 1945-12-31
Scope and Contents
Letters from Welch to family upon his February 23 release from the internment camp at Los Baños. His initial letters from February and March describe the circumstances of his imprisonment and recent liberation while those from June discuss his ongoing health issues and treatment for dysentery at St. Vincent's Hospital (New York). After a stint assisting at St. John the Evangelist (Pulaski) in July and August, Welch received a new position teaching mathematics at Canisius High School (Buffalo) for the 1945-1946 academic year.
Also contains a letter to Sister Christina from her parents requesting that she type a copy of Leo's original correspondence of February 25. While the resulting typed copy is present within the collection, the original handwritten letter is not.
