53 pages of music and lyrics inscribed in a neat hand in a bound volume of staff paper, with stationers ticket on front pastedown: "Maison Lard-Esnault. Papeterie, Reliure. 25, rue Feydeau, Paris." One song laid in on one leaf of blue paper.
Ownership inscription on first front free endpaper: "Margaret Wrottesley." Below the inscription is another: "N.B. Many of the songs in this book have never been published: and the book should be preserved. G.W. 1908." G.W. is likely George Wrottesley, an English Army officer, antiquarian, and genealogist. He was married twice, both wives having Margaret in their names: Margaret Anne (m. 1854, d. 1883) and Nina Margaret (m. 1889). It is not known which Margaret inscribed her name in this volume. Based on handwriting comparisons of several distinctive letter forms ("tt," "m," and "r"), whichever Margaret wrote the ownership inscription was likely the person who recorded the music and lyrics in this volume.
