Bartolini songbook, bound music manuscript, scored for voice and piano, 59 pages, Naples, early 19th century
Scope and Contents
Small manuscript volume created by Celestino Bartolini containing 19 songs, many apparently arranged or composed by Luigia Bartolini. Most songs generally 2 pages in length, some with additional verses.
In gold on front cover: "Per Piano Forte." On page 1 (cover page): "Ariette, e Canzonette per Piano Forte." An index to the works is present on pages 2-3.
Little is known about the Bartolinis, though the Morgan Library (NY) holds in their Mary Flagler Cary Music Collection one letter dated 1838 by a Luigia Bartolini from Paris to a Miss Adolphus in London. In addition, the Library of the Conservatorio di musica Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, Italy, holds two early 19th century music manuscripts created by Celestino Bartolini, one being a copy of an aria by Guglielmi and the other a duet by Mosca.
