Arabic list of pious women, 1878 - 1879
Scope and Contents
A list of 195 names of الغيورات (al-ghayūrāt), pious or devout women who were zealous in their faith and religious duties. This term is often used to describe women who are deeply committed to their spiritual practices, are active in church life, and fervent in upholding Christian teachings. Although unclear, it seems as though this document was intended to praise these 195 women for their particular dedication and devotion in relation to the "community of Jesuit Fr. Stanislaus" or "the Jesuit community of Fr. Stanislaus."
The manuscript also includes a depiction of Jesus ministering to the "children of the East" by Joseph Hussenot (French, 1827-1896). It further has a note on the back: "seemingly a testimonial to Fr. Stanislaus of the Society of Jesus (according to Fr. Anderson, New England Province). May have been brought from Cairo by Fr. [Francis] Barnum."
