John Moran, 1860s

 File — Box: 60, Folder: 16

Scope and Contents

Four matted sepia-tone photographs, likely albumen, by pioneering Philadelphia-based photographer John Moran. Two of the prints are slightly smaller with curved upper corners, and have labels on the verso indicating they are views in a series called “Scenery in the Region of the Delaware Water Gap” by Moran & Storey – one is “The Gap, from Blockhead Mountain” (No. 578) and the other is “The Gap, from Table Rock” (No. 582). The other two prints are slightly larger with square corners and have handwritten labels on the verso: “Falls of the Schuylkill” and “The White Mountain Range From Bartlett.” All four prints have stamped numbers on the recto and verso: Ph 2957 (Bartlett), Ph 2960 (Schuylkill), Ph 2977 (Table Rock), and Ph 2990 (Blockhead Mountain). All four prints are primarily landscapes, though the “Gap” images also feature human figures. Undated but likely c. 1860s.
