An offprint of Cambridge historian David Knowles’ The Prospects of Medieval Studies accompanied by a note in his hand addressed “Dear Billy.” The note is written on letterhead from Knowles’ residence in Pimlico, London, and dated December 9, 1947.

Biographical / Historical

Michael David Knowles was an English Benedictine monk, Catholic priest, and historian. In 1944, Knowles was elected to a research fellowship at Peterhouse at the University of Cambridge, and would stay there – later as Professor of Medieval History and Regius Professor of Modern History – until his retirement in 1963.
