Roger Senhouse, 1928 - 1967

 File — Box: 63

Scope and Contents

A collection of materials related to English publisher Roger Senhouse. The collection falls into two parts: First, a photo album containing images from an August 1928 trip to Scandinavia with his sometime lover Lytton Strachey (1880-1932) and writer Raymond Mortimer (1895-1980). 96 black and white images from various sites around Denmark and Sweden, all of which are labeled in Senhouse’s hand, with occasional commentary or humorous additions: beneath a photo of Kronborg Castle, known as the inspiration for Elsinore, he writes “The sentry marching up and down, alone, trying to start the play Hamlet.” The final photographs are of Senhouse himself holding his “new Kodak” and Lytton Strachey. The end of the book contains 8 sketches in various stages of completion, and a 1927 postcard sent from France is tucked inside. The book itself is bound in gold printed paper and once had a soft leather tie closure, now lost. Second, a collection of materials related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, apparently compiled by Senhouse: Four newspaper clippings and a pamphlet entitled “Who Killed Kennedy” by Thomas G. Buchanan (1919-1988), some with pencil notes in Senhouse’s hand. The pamphlet is in two pieces, and is incomplete.
