Middle Hill Press, 1850s
Scope and Contents
A copy of The Will of Sir Richard Philipps, Bart., Baron Milford (Extracted from the Registry of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury) as printed by Sir Thomas Phillipps’ Middle Hill Press in the 1850s. 12 folio pages. Also included is a single sheet of folio-sized paper bearing 12 vignettes of a castle with the words “Turris Lativiensis 1854 Middle Hill” with space for a number to be added. This is the Broadway Tower at Middle Hill, Phillipps’ Worcestershire estate from which he ran his press. Also included are three pieces of ephemera related to the Phillipps Club of Washington DC, of which Scheetz was a founding member. The club does not appear to be extant today.

Biographical / Historical
Middle Hill Press was a private press run by book collector, antiquary, and self-described “vellumaniac” Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792-1872) between 1818 and 1872. It was based in his Worcestershire home of the same name.
