Scope and Contents

Materials related to the writing and publication of British Public School War Materials (1927) by C.F. Kernot. A letter from Admiral Earl Jellicoe (1859-1935) containing a handwritten draft of his what would become his foreword for the book, dated October 9, 1927; a note from Field Marshal Lord Methuen (1845-1932) containing a handwritten copy of his own foreword, dated 2 October 1927; letters from Field Marshal Lord Allenby (1861-1936), General John Hamilton, and Lord Robertson, all declining to write forewords of their own. Also included is a typed letter addressed to Mrs. E.C. Seely from the office of Viscount Jellicoe and containing his autograph, and two news clippings – one related to Jellicoe and one reporting on the new memorial chapel at Charterhouse School.
