A typed letter signed by author and critic Joseph Krutch, addressed to Julie Sloane, the wife of Krutch’s publisher William Sloane, and dated November 14, 1955. Accompanied by a handwritten letter from Krutch’s wife Marcelle to William Sloane dated 1973. Contents are personal.

Biographical / Historical

Joseph Wood Krutch (1893-1970) was an American author, critic, and naturalist. Krutch served as a professor of English at Columbia University between 1937 and 1952, after which he relocated to Tucson, Arizona and wrote several books on the ecology of the American Southwest. He is further noted for developing a pantheistic philosophy. His wife, Marcelle Krutch (1895-1992), managed his estate following his death in 1970.
