Biographical / Historical
Frederic W. Goudy (1865-1947) was an American artist, printer, and type designer credited with creating more than 120 unique typefaces, including the eponymous Goudy Old Style. His wife, Bertha M. Spinks Goudy (1869-1935), was also a talented designer, and the two worked closely together at the Village Press in Park Ridge Illinois, which they founded together with Will Ransom in 1903 following the principles of the Arts and Crafts movement.
