Scope and Contents
Five pieces of correspondence dated 1908-1909 from the personal papers of Charles James Stanley Howard, at that time styled Viscount Morpeth. Three letters are addressed to Morpeth himself, and two are in his own hand written to an unidentified woman known only as “Kathleen.”

Biographical / Historical
Charles James Stanley Howard (1867-1912) was a British solider and member of Parliament for Birmingham South. From 1889 he was styled Viscount Morpeth until April of 1911 when he succeeded his father as the 10th Earl of Carlisle. He died less than a year later in January of 1912.
