British Government Documents, 1867 - 1907
Scope and Contents
A collection of documents, mostly accounts and memoranda, pertaining to printing expenses for several British parliamentary bodies including the War, Foreign, and Stationery Offices between 1867 and 1907. Of particular note here are accounts for the Slave Trade Department, which was responsible for international treaties against slavery and negotiating with foreign powers to seize ships of nations engaged in the trade of enslaved people. Also included are a number of reports put out by the Government Printing Committee, other printed matter, and various letters and drafts. The documents appear to have originally belonged to the printing firm of Harrison and Sons, who were under contract with the government and maintained private presses at the Foreign and War Offices.
