From the Collection:

The de Garczvnski Family Collection is a unique assemblage of more than 650 printed and near-print items, largely ephemeral in nature, documenting various aspects of the First World War in Poland and the Polish-Bolshevik struggle of 1918-1920. The collection includes political manifestos and propaganda, pamphlets and memoirs bearing on the time both contemporary and retrospective, and home-front documentation ranging from newspapers and posters to badges and street tokens given contributors to charity food collections and the like. Its materials are largely in Polish, but the collection includes documentation in the German, Russian, and Turkish languages, among others as well.

The collection was formed largely by Mr. Leon S. do Garczynski of Daytona Beach, Florida, who served in the Polish armed forces during the percid 1914-1920, and incorporates materials gathered by his father and other relatives.

Conditions Governing Access

Most manuscripts collections at the Georgetown University Booth Family Center for Special Collections are open to researchers; however, restrictions may apply to some collections. Collections stored off site require a minimum of three days for retrieval. For use of all manuscripts collections, researchers are advised to contact the Booth Family Center for Special Collections in advance of any visit.
