Scope and Contents
Account book maintained by Richard Tilghman (1673-1739), 1718-1741; account records that document the operations of his Queen Anne County plantations that produced primarily tobacco. This book also documents a transition in his employment practices. Before 1720, he used both indentured servants and enslaved people; after 1720, his bound labor force was exclusively enslaved labor. His laborers produced crops for domestic and Atlantic economy and to manufactured crafts for the local economy.
