Volume 2

 File — Box: 2

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Jones Collection contains some 1,500 photographic prints (many of them first generation), mounted in seven volumes, relating to the early history of American aviation from 1863-1917. The photographs were taken or collected by Jones primarily in the period 1907-1915, during which time he was editor of the pioneer technical journal "Aeronautics". The volumes were meticulously arranged by Jones, neatly captioned, cross-referenced and indexed. Jones' index to the collection can be found in the first volume, box 1.

According to Jones' description: "It is believed impossible to duplicate this collection. Many photographs were taken by him [Jones] personally; others were purchased or given him by the inventors, builders or flyers, many of whom are deceased, or have discontinued their efforts."
