Scope and Contents
Eight unpublished plays and short stories by Edwin Emerson:
1. The Way of the Transgressor, Dramatized in One Act from one of Chekhov's Tales, by Edwin Emerson. Typewritten, 14 pages, with underlinings by Emerson in red pencil.
2. The Man Who Went Before, by Edwin Emerson. Typewritten, two copies, the original and a carbon copy, 46 pages, corrections and changes in ink by Emerson in both copies.
3. For the Good of the Cause, by Edwin Emerson. Typewritten, two copies, original and carbon copy, 7 pages, no handwritten changes or corrections by Emerson. A political election story.
4. The Phantom Dance, by Edwin Emerson. Typewritten, two copies, original and carbon copy, 4 pages, no handwritten changes by Emerson.
5. A Heart for a Heart, by Edwin Emerson. Typewritten, two copies, original and carbon copy, 27 pages, a few corrections and changes by Emerson in pencil.
6. The Hazard of the die, by Edwin Emerson. Typewritten, one copy, 62 pages, incomplete, with pencil corrections by Emerson.
7. The Strange Choice of Dillie Carter (Daisie Martin), by Edwin Emerson. Typewritten, 18 pages, with corrections by Emerson in black ink, and marginal notes by another person in red ink, with reviewer's critique on back page in black ink. Appears to be a college exercise in English 5.
8. A Nine Days Wonder, by Edwin Emerson. Typewritten, three copies: (1) on paper 8 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches, 28 pages, incomplete, revisions by Emerson in pencil. (2 and 3) on regular paper 8 1/2 x 11 inches, complete, 23 pages, original and carbon copy, no corrections or changes by Emerson.
