Vogel, Jerry - Correspondence to Kenton Kilmer, 1969-1971

This series contains the extensive correspondence files of Kenton Kilmer. Much of the correspondence concerns Kenton's tenure as poetry editor for the "Washington Post" in the 1940s. This series includes many poems sent by various individuals to Kenton for consideration to be published in the "Washington Post." To that effect, some of the retained poems were published while others have remained unpublished. Kenton kept complete, chronological binders containing clippings of the poems that were published in the "Washington Post" in the 1940s. Collected in a handful of binders, these materials bring together in one place poems published under his editorship at the "Washington Post."

Most of the letters in this series were written to Kenton Kilmer, though there are some copies of letters he wrote in box 13. Some of the letters concern Kenton's activities throughout his life after his job at the "Washington Post." Also included is correspondence with Jerry Vogel Music Company, which shared the copyright with G. Schirmer, Inc. on the musical version of "Trees." Materials about the Jerry Vogel Foundation, which was known for sending candy to various hospitals, is also retained.
