Biographical / Historical

John Russell, 1st Earl Russell, served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from June 1846 – February 1852 and 1865–1866. He was a staunch promoter of liberal reform in the Whig party. He published essays, biography, history, drama, and poetry. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens was dedicated to Lord John Russell, "In remembrance of many public services and private kindnesses."
