Collection of manuscript poems by 56 minor British poets. Includes prose and 3 photographs. Poets include: Alfred Austin, Mary Elizabeth Braden, "Alfred Crowquill," Francis Jeffrey, J. Sheridan Knowles, Lord John Russell, Charles Augustus Sala, and Martin F. Tupper.

Biographical / Historical

Born in Dunfermline, Fife, Paton was a popular Scottish artist, illustrator, sculpter, and poet. He had a particular interest in Scottish folklore and Celtic legends, and this subject was relfected in his art and writing. Paton was very successful in all artistic endeavors, and received a knighthood in 1878 as well a an honorary LL.D. by the University of Edinburgh.
