Most manuscripts collections at the Georgetown University Booth Family Center for Special Collections are open to researchers; however, restrictions may apply to some collections. Biographical / Historical
Lyall, born in Surrey, was a British civil servant, literary historian, and poet. He served in the Indian Civil Service for several years, during which he founded the University of Allahabad. He earned advanced degrees from Oxford and Cambridge for his literary achievements.

AMs (4 pages, 1,3,6, and 9, of 9) from “Siva: Mors Janua Vitae” Transcription on back of “page 9” by Allen: “MS by Sir Alfred Lyall K.C.B. / (Poem published in “Verses written in India”) / This MS was given by Sir A. Lyall to my uncle M W Benett of the I.C.S. As originally published in the nineteenth century is without one verse, which appears in the “Verses written in India.”
