Collection of manuscript poems by 56 minor British poets. Includes prose and 3 photographs. Poets include: Alfred Austin, Mary Elizabeth Braden, "Alfred Crowquill," Francis Jeffrey, J. Sheridan Knowles, Lord John Russell, Charles Augustus Sala, and Martin F. Tupper.

Biographical / Historical

Knowles, born in Cork, Ireland, was a distinguished actor from a young age. He had close relationships with literary men including Hazlitt, Coleridge, and Lamb, and published several drams, poetry, novels. Alongside and after acting, Knowles became a schoolmaster, lecturer, and Baptist preacher.
