Collection of manuscript poems by 56 minor British poets. Includes prose and 3 photographs. Poets include: Alfred Austin, Mary Elizabeth Braden, "Alfred Crowquill," Francis Jeffrey, J. Sheridan Knowles, Lord John Russell, Charles Augustus Sala, and Martin F. Tupper.

Biographical / Historical

Doyle was born in Yorkshire to a military family and received a good education. He bcame 2nd Baronet Doyle on the death of his father in 1839. Doyle was called to the Bar in 1837 and held various fiscal appointments before becoming Professor of Poetry at Oxford in 1867.
