This box contains material on the early period of EBM's political career as RR Commissioner, state senator, and his successful bid for election to U.S. Senate from Texas in 1922. Proceedings dealing with the Corsicana case start in this box and continue into Box 5.

This folder contains numerous letters regarding the Senate race with references to the KKK. A copy of a questionnaire which was sent regarding membership or affiliation with KKK circulated by the Dallas County Citizens League. This folder is unique in that it contains material from KKK organization and its operations during an election in Texas. For instance there is a June 29th letter from sterling P. Strong who withdrew from the race to "let a real Klansman win." Also a copy of vote taken by Tyler Klan #75; a Z.E. Marvin letter to other Klansmen stating his support of Mayfield (Marvin was Great Titan Province #2) (Box 6 Folder 7a has another letter from Marvin to EBM regarding the Catholic vote in Texas and the KKK. Materials from the KKK are in this folder. Some correspondence not from KKK refer to "mob spirit" in Texas at this time. Also references to women voting and Mayfield's alleged "secret report favorable to brewery interests."
