1 Typed Letter Signed dated 9/30/1898 from John Addison Porter to Aaron Homer Byington, discussing Porter's loss at the Republican Convention of New Haven in spite of receiving 2/3 of the states votes. He discusses whether this ticket will win in November and predicts possible popular uprising and loss of Connecticut Congressman. He discusses a coalition of the "Gold Democrats" and the "Silver Democrats" who may criticize the War Department and win the election. Colonel Osborn, the editor of the "New Haven Register", also believes this to be the case. Porter also discusses "The Gazette" and criticizes Mr. Lounsbury's political future. Sent from Executive Mansion, Washington to Consul of the United States, Naples, Italy.
