Container Summary

1 Typed Letter Signed dated 3/19/1898 from John Addison Porter to Aaron Homer Byington, regarding personal and political matters. Porter thanks Byington for sending a New Year's greeting card and informs Byington that Governor Griggs of New Jersey has been appointed Attorney-General. Porter asks for Byington's help in his campaign against Senator Lounsbury or Ridgefield for the Governorship of his home state. He references Windham Count, Fairfield County, and "The Gazette" as important to his election. Porter also informs Byington that mutual friend Ed Frisbie will likely be the Mayor of Hartford and discusses President McKinley's approach to the Spanish question and Consular salaries. He says that Mrs. Porter is suffering because of her father's death. Sent from the Executive Mansion, Washington to Consul of the United States, Naples, Italy.
