Container Summary

1 Typed Letter Signed dated 10/20/1897 from John Addison Porter to Aaron Homer Byington, addressing Byington's concerns about the poor furniture at the Italian consulate and comparing Byington to the speakers cousin, Harold Van Buren the Consul at Nice. He wishes Byington's wife good health and advises him not to complain too much. Porter thanks Byington for offering to help in editorials of the "Gazette" if Porter decides to become a candidate. Byington's son would like a position at the New York Post Office and Porter would like to help, but is not well acquainted with Mr. Van Cott. He says that President McKinley and his wife are in good spirits having just returned from a summer outing, and also says that the country seems optimistic and prosperous. Sent from Executive Mansion, Washington.
