Berlin, Irving - "Call me Madame" , 14 Dec 1950

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 3

Scope and Contents note

From the Collection:

The Leonard Reed Collection consists of 11 typescripts of various plays and musicals, a book of play synopses, and related materials. These items are contained in 12 folders and arranged in two boxes.

The Collection is largely a group of mimeograph typescripts which were in the possession of Joseph Kaye (1898 - 1975). Kaye, a native of the Ukraine and educated in Glasgow, Scotland, was the New York correspondent for The Kansas City Star for more than forty years beginning in the early 1930's. Kaye covered the cultural scene of New York City for The Star, and his focus was on the theater. Kaye was a playwrite himself and, in 1925, co-wrote The Plot Concerns-, a group of play synopses. The maunscripts in the Collection appear to be review copies of various plays by some outstanding authors such as Irving Berlin, Arthur Miller, Rodgers & Hammerstein and Eugene O'Neill. A copy of Kaye's The Plot Concerns- is included in the Collection. Joseph Kaye died on June 9, 1988.
