The Lukas-Teilhard de Chardin Collection comprises the materials used by Ellen and Mary Lukas in the research for their book, Teilhard, a biography of the Jesuit paleontologist and philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. These files consist of original letters, photographs, and photoreproductions of unpublished letters to and from Teilhard, his family, friends, and associates, along with some related printed materials.

The material consists of correspondence to the Lukases from individuals who had known Teilhard, photocopies of correspondence from Teilhard collected by the Lukases (much of which is unpublished), and a number of photogrpahs of persons and places in Teilhard's life, as well as two original letters from Teilhard. In addition, the collection oncludes some of the Lukases' notes and annotations, a cassette tape of Teilhard speaking, and an unrelated letter to Mary Lukas from playwright Edward Albee.

Please note that three folders in the collection are restricted from use during the lives of their respective subjects: Box 1 Folder 10 (Isabelle de la Bouillerye), Box 2 Folder 14 (Francois Russo, S.J.), and Box 3 Folder 5 (Rhode de Terra).

Most manuscripts collections at the Georgetown University Library Booth Family Center for Special Collections are open to researchers; however, restrictions may apply to some collections. Container Summary

Contains a letter, a card, and autograph answers to typed questions from the Lukases on events in the last few years of Teilhard's life, especially his making of a will. Also contains a photo of Mlle. Mortier, and a copy of her permission to publish quotations from material she had supplied.
