1 Autograph Letter (Manuscript Copy) dated 11/18/1864 from Henry W. Halleck to Major General E.R.S. Canby, informing him that no further military operations will be undertaken on this coast at the present time. References to holding harbor defenses in Mobile harbor, breaking P.T. Beauregard's communications, breaking the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, destroying enemy supplies, threatening the town of Selma, U.S. Grant leaving the point of departure and line of operations to Canby's discretion, Price being defeated, Beauregard fixing railroads, Major General George H. Thomas having a large force, and Major General William T. Sherman operating in Georgia. Sent from Department of the Gulf, United States Telegraph Office, New Orleans.
