Manuscript #237: ALS dated January 20, 1884 from Charles Algernon Swinburne to painter/poet William Bell Scott (1811-1890). Reference to first acquaintance with Scott at Wallington in Northumberland, the home of Pauline Lady Trevalyan and Sir Walter Trevalyan. Reference also to the writing progress of of Swinburne's essay on Wordsworth and Byron (published as "Wordsworth and Byron," in "Miscellanies," (New York: Worthington Company, 1886). Of Wordsworth, Swinburne writes: "...That great poet has never been praised enough except by those who have overpraised him in the worng places -- in the right, he cannot be overpraised..."
