Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Richard T. Crane Papers are divided into three series: the State Department Series (1915-1919), the Prague Series (1919-1922), and the Virginia Series (1922-1951), corresponding, respectively, to Richard Crane's years as private secretary to Secretary of State Robert Lansing; as the American ambassador to Czechoslovakia; and finally, as the owner of Westover Plantation in Virginia. There is also a quantity of photographs and other materials, filed separately.

An addendum of additional materials, including correspondence from his time in Czechoslovakia, is included in the collection.

Conditions Governing Access

Most manuscripts collections at the Georgetown University Booth Family Center for Special Collections are open to researchers; however, restrictions may apply to some collections. Collections stored off site require a minimum of three days for retrieval. For use of all manuscripts collections, researchers are advised to contact the Booth Family Center for Special Collections in advance of any visit.

Container Summary

Correspondence, documents, brochures, clippings, and maps. Material relates to the Travel Bureau as well as to several trips to Europe. Also included is correspondence from Berle and Berle, as well as William, Mullen, William and Hazelgrove. Both firms acted as attorneys for the Richard Crane Estate (1938-1940).
